..DIAGONAL 3D CHESS - PAWNS..

.THE PAWN .
The Pawn grows as it crosses the board 'diagonally'. |
I designed the pawn in this way so it would retain its blocking potential, because if one logically extrapolated the 2D Pawn into 3D space it is extremely weak and other pieces simply 'fly' around it. (and I didn't want to have more than 16 pieces on each side.) However, here are some "issues" I have discovered with this design. I think of these as decisions that you the player can exclude or expand and thus evolve the game. 1) As you can see above the pawns move board contains two diagonal planes of cubes (one plane 1/2 cube offset from the other). If a pawn were to traverse these one by one, it would take 8 moves to get to the center of the board, and 16 to the other side of the chess cube. When does the pawn promote? 2) Because a pawn takes up more than one cube, i.e. a whole 'row', this means that it can be taken at multiple spots. And that it can, potentially, take more than one piece at a time. Is this ok?
