In the end, the phenomena of 'Free Castles' eventually faded. Experts suggest that with time all things fade, and sure enough this is true for these floating giants. The last siting of a Free Castle was on Christmas Eve, 2005 Bellingham WA, in a photograph of a sunset over a parking lot. Unfortunately the Free Castle was mistaken for a piece of dirt on the lense and photoshoped out of the picture. In this traveling journalists perspective we are not only witness to an end of a mysterious and passive oddity, we are witness to a passing symbol of an age. There are many fads that have vanished and then reappeared as 'classic' and 'hip'. Pre haps in time, when the past is once again dredged for culture and substance, we may see the Free Castles mighty silhouette in the distance.
